Several hundred people filled the new Fuddruckers restaurant Sunday night, enjoying the newest addition to Del Rio’s dining scene. “We’re from here, and we want to provide more options for eating
out,” said Ricardo de la Cabada, one of three brothers who own the restaurant as well as the Fuddruckers in Eagle Pass.
“There are many people from Del Rio who go to the Fuddruckers in Eagle Pass, so we saw the opportunity and decided to open here, too.”
The Del Rio Chamber of Commerce had a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning for the restaurant, located at 2211 Veterans Blvd., and it’s now open for business. “Del Rio is in for a whole different experience,” said Manager Mario Hernandez. “We have the greatest hamburgers in the world! Everything is fresh. Our beef is prime beef. Our service is excellent.” Trainers from every aspect of the business were in Del Rio last week and will continue working with the new employees this week to ensure customers get the very best meals and service, company officials said.
“I’ve been working with some great people,” said Arlene Cruz, a baker trainer from Ontario, Calif. “They’re very committed.” Juanita Valadez, the Del Rio restaurant’s new head baker, said the training
was excellent as is the company. “I like making it all from scratch,” Valadez said. “I love my job, and I like the way we all get along as a team.” The employees’ enthusiasm was contagious. “I think this restaurant will have good business,” said Gus Esparza, 18, who was pleased with his experience at the restaurant Sunday night.
“The service is very good.” Martha Vasquez of Fort Worth has been living in Del Rio for three years. She will be working in the restaurant’s full-service bar. “Fuddrucker’s is awesome, actually,” she said, smiling proudly. “I tell people, it’s like the “Build Your Bear” Workshop — but we’re “Build Your Burger” Workshop. It’s fun!” Lorena Martinez will be tending bar. “Come on over,” she invited.
“This is a great place!” Fuddruckers, located by Plaza del Sol Mall, will be open at 11 a.m. every day, closing at 10 p.m. Sunday-Wednesday, at 10:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 11:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
