Ashly Escamilla receives national scholarship

Ashly Escamilla of Baytown, Texas was named national runner-up in the Latino Art Beat 15th Annual Competition titled ‘What Hispanic Heritage and Culture Means to Me,’ earning a college scholarship.
Escamilla also received a college scholarship from the Baytown Little Theater, the Mary Lou Burkett Scholarship for extraordinary performance in theater and the arts.
Escamilla is a freshman at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, majoring in Dance and Theater.
Escamilla is the daughter of Sylvia Escontrias- Cuellar and Julian Escamilla. She is the granddaughter of native Eagle Passans Manuel Escontrias and Mary Garza Escontrias. She is also the great granddaughter of the late Francisco Escontrias and Consuelo Villarreal Escontrias and the late Encarnacion G. Garza and Amparo Cruz Garza, all of Eagle Pass.
