United States District Judge Alia Moses honored on 10th Anniversary
United States District Judge Alia Moses for the Western District of Texas, Del Rio Division, was honored with a reception commemorating her tenth anniversary as a federal district judge on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at the San Felipe Country Club in Del Rio, Texas by the Del Rio Association of Federal Attorneys and past and present law clerks of Judge Moses.
United States Magistrate Judge Victor Roberto Garcia for the Western District of Texas, Del Rio Division, was the Master of Ceremony of the reception. U.S. Magistrate Judge Garcia noted that U.S.District Judge Alia Moses was appointed as a federal district judge on November 14, 2002, by President George W. Bush. Prior to being appointed as a U.S. District Judge, Judge Moses was a U.S.Magistrate Judge for the Western District of Texas, Del Rio Division. Before her appointment as a U.S. Magistrate Judge, Judge Moses was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas, Del Rio Division. Prior to working with the United States Department of Justice as an Assistant United States Attorney, Judge Moses worked as Chief of the Travis County Attorney’s Appellate Section and as an Assistant County Attorney in Austin, Texas. Judge Moses is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin School of Law. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas. She also is a graduate of Eagle Pass High School and the first inductee into the Eagle Pass High School Hall of Fame.
United States Magistrate Judge Collis White for the Western District of Texas, Del Rio Division, recalled that he hired Judge Moses in 1987 as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas in Del Rio and how she has developed and grown the U.S. District Court for the Western District, Del Rio Division, with the highest number of cases filed and most case dispositions in the United States.
Other speakers included Erica Geise, Deputy Chief of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Diane Rodriguez, Deputy Chief of the U.S. Probation Office, Robert Chavez, Deputy Chief of the U.S.Pretrial Services Office, Rogelio M. Munoz, President of the Del Rio Association of Federal Attorneys, Mario Pelayo, Deputy Chief of the U.S. Marshal’s Service, Don Bynum, Internal Affairs, William Fried, Deputy Chief of the Federal Public Defenders Office, Rebecca Moore, Operations Manager of the U.S. District Clerk’s Office, and many more.
U.S. District Judge Alia Moses thanked her parents, sisters and brother, family, friends, and everyone who has worked with her and have helped her attain this milestone. Judge Moses also thanked all the federal agencies, agents, staff, and attorneys who have contributed to the success of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, Del Rio Division.
Current and past law clerks of Judge Moses presented her with a beautiful bouquet of roses and a plaque commemorating her tenth anniversary as a United States District Judge.
Following the ceremony, a reception with refreshments and hors D’Oeouvres was held for guests to greet and congratulate Judge Moses.
