The Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas Council and Project Companion, both non-profit organizations, partnered on Friday, December 14, 2012, to help the homeless dogs and cats at the City of Eagle Pass Animal Shelter located on Eidson Road inside the City’s Public Works Department, announced Sara Salinas, President of Project Companion.
Girl Scouts members donated blankets, rugs, and towels to the City of Eagle Pass Animal Shelter for the stray dogs and cats caught by City Animal Control Officers. City Animal Control Shelter Director, Fernando Munoz, thanked the Girl Scouts for their donation.
Project Companion, organized after the Rosita Valley Tornado in Maverick County to rescue stray dogs and cats, is partnering with the Girl Scouts teaching them to become foster parents of animals to spare them from euthanization in the City’s Animal Shelter gas chamber, to find people to adopt the animals, and to spay and neuter animals to avoid overpopulation in the community.
Project Companion and the Girl Scouts are also sponsoring a two day Mobile Spay and Neuter Clinic in February to be announced in the future as to its date, time, and location.
City of Eagle Pass Animal Shelter Director Fernando Munoz stated that all stray dogs and cats captured by City Animal Control Officers are available for adoption by the public after one week from their owners being notified of their animal’s detention and their failure to pick up their animal. All unclaimed or adopted dogs and cats at the City’s Animal Shelter are euthanized. The City’s Animal Shelter is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5p.m. For more information or to contact the City of Eagle Pass Animal Shelter, please call (830) 773-9408.
