Maverick County Commissioners Court reviews three local contractors

In their November 29, 2012, meeting, Maverick County Commissioners Court addressed an item on their agenda in Executive Session with Maverick County Attorney Ricardo Ramos regarding three local contractors, specifically Javier Gonzalez Construction, C & A Construction, and Macias Construction.
The purpose of the agenda item was to review the status of existing construction contracts with these three local contractors with the County of Maverick, including some from a Texas Department of Transportation grant.
A review of the Maverick County Clerk’s Office Assumed Names Registry lists Javier Gonzalez of 844 Paso del Rio, Eagle Pass, Texas as the owner of Javier Gonzalez Construction, Maverick County Precinct Three Justice of the Peace Cesar Iracheta of 489 Mela Garcia Road, Eagle Pass, Texas as owner of C & A Construction Company, and Roberto Lopez Macias of Lot 10 of Rosita Valley Road, Eagle Pass, Texas as owner of Roberto Lopez Macias Construction.
The Maverick County Commissioners Court reviewed information that indicates these contractors received either partial or full payment for certain Maverick County construction contracts previously approved by Commissioners Court but have not been completed. After deliberating in executive session, Maverick County Commissioners Court voted in open session to not take any action on this agenda item but directed newly appointed County Auditor Fidencio Ortiz to review the status of the contracts and report back to Commissioners Court with his findings.
One plausible explanation discussed why the contracts have not been completed is that Maverick County was responsible for providing the materials and the contractors were responsible for labor and equipment only but that Maverick County failed to provide the materials necessary to complete the projects contracted for due to the lack of funds to pay for the necessary materials.
A report from Maverick County Auditor Fidencio Ortiz to Commissioners Court is expected in the near future.
