Maverick County Hospital District offers health care services to community

The Maverick County Hospital District was created on May 11, 1965, by the Texas Legislature to provide health care services for the indigent and needy residents of Maverick County.
The Maverick County Hospital District fulfills its health care services through the Medical Financial Assistance Program for indigent and needy residents and specialized medical and health care services through the Physician Specialty Group, the Breast and Cervical Cancer Services program, the Diabetes Self-Management Education Program, the Ryan White HIV Program, and the recently opened Chemotherapy Treatment Center, said Elcira Bares, Chief Executive Officer of the Maverick County Hospital District. These programs are opened to all Maverick County residents.
The Medical Financial Assistance Program is opened to assist Eagle Pass and Maverick County eligible residents who are not eligible for Medicaid or do not have private insurance. The Physician Specialty Group offers a wide range of specialized medical services including general surgery, vascular surgery, colorectal surgery, rheumatology, infusion therapy, neurology, oncology and hematology, chemotherapy, pain management, and cardiology. The Physician Specialty Group is opened to everyone in the community including those with private insurance and veterans. The Breast and Cervical Cancer Services program offers clinical breast examinations, mammograms, pelvic examinations, and Pap tests at no or low cost to elgible women in Eagle Pass and Maverick County. The Diabetes and Self-Management Education Program assists Individuals with diabetes achieve successful health related outcomes through personal education, nutrition, cooking, and self-management training. The Chemotherapy Cancer Treatment program offers chemotherapy cancer treatment to Maverick County cancer patients in Eagle Pass instead of having to travel out of town to San Antonio, Laredo, Houston, Dallas, or Uvalde.
