Nava, Coahuila seeks two international bridges with Eagle Pass
By: Jose G. Landa
Nava, Coahuila, Mexico Mayor Arnoldo Guardiola announced that his municipality seeks two international bridges with the City of Eagle Pass, one for automobiles and a second for railroad cars.
Mayor Guardiola stated he had met with Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu and both had signed a joint collaboration agreement to work together to commence the long process of obtaining the United States and Mexican presidential permits, financing for the two international bridges, and eventual construction of the two bridges in the future.
Mayor Guardiola told the Mexican newspaper ‘Vanguardia’ that the intent is to promote investment and facilitate greater international trade through Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. Guardiola stated that the dual international bridges proposal is meritorious and would bring many future investments to Nava, Coahuila , who already has some large world-class industries.
Guardiola added that both him and Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu concur that such a dual international bridge proposal would bring explosive growth and investments to the Texas-Coahuila, Mexico border in the future.
Efforts to reach Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu for comments were unsuccessful.
It is unknown if Nava, Coahuila’s Mayor Guardiola’s dual international bridge proposal with Eagle Pass includes the proposed international railroad bridge by Eagle Pass Railroad, L.L.C., which is owned by Dos Republicas Coal Partnership, a Texas partnership owned by two Texas corporations who are subsidiaries of Mexican steel and coal giant, Grupo Acerero del Norte, S.A.de C.V. and Altos Hornos de Mexico, S.A. de C. V., headquartered in Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico, or whether these two bridges are separate and independent of the proposed Eagle Pass Railroad, L.L.C.
The City of Eagle Pass has filed a request for a full environmental assessment report be done by the United States Surface Transportation on the proposed Eagle Pass Railroad, L.L.C. as well as written concerns on that project. It is unknown at this time if these are different competing proposals or part of the dual bridge proposal spoken by Mayor Guardiola of Nava, Coahuila.
To date, there is no official comments from the City of Eagle Pass regarding this alleged joint collaboration agreement between the cities of Nava, Coahuila and the City of Eagle Pass concerning the proposal to build two international bridges, one for automobiles and one for railroad.
