Texas wins back to back National Junior High Finals Rodeo Titles in New Mexico
After winning its first team title in 2011, Texas made it two straight with a dominating performance in Gallup this year. The team got a relatively balanced performance as they boys team totaled 6,865 points while the girls put up 6,200 on the board. Texas’ total of 12,095 points was more than double the total of any other state except runner-up Colorado. The centennial state put up 6,845 points – 20 less than the Texas boys recorded.
For several Texas competitors, the 2012 National Junior High Finals provided their final opportunities to participate in Junior High division. In that case, they’ve already started paying their dues as freshman at the high school level. Three of these 2012 national qualifiers include Logan Weeks of Uvalde, Sissy Winn of Chapman Ranch and Greg Cordova of Del Rio. At a recent Region 8 rodeo in Sinton, Texas, they were presented with National Championship Team buckles.
All three hope to return to the national finals rodeo as freshmen within the high school ranks.
