2013 Maverick County Jr. Livestock Show Kicks-Off January 20th
The Maverick County Junior Livestock show will kick-off its 2013 activities on Sunday, January 20, 2013, with the Miss Maverick County Junior Livestock Show(MCJLS) Beauty Pageant which will be held at the Zan Mathies Showbarn located at the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass, Texas at 3:00 p.m.
The 2013 MCJLS will be held in honor of and dedicated in memory of Jesus (Chuy) Sanchez, past president of the MCJLS who succumbed to cancer in 2012.
The annual Cowboy Community Breakfast will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at the Maverick County Zan Mathies Showbarn as well. The Cowboy Community Breakfast will be from 7am to 9am. Tickets are now on sale at the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce. Pre-sale tickets are $8 and will be $10 per person on the day of the event, said Sandra Rodriguez, Director of Public Relations for the MCJLS. On Wednesday, January 23rd, all animals must be in place by 10:00 p.m. (no earlier than 5:00 p.m.) and is the last day to register for young exhibitors and the Clovers show.
The 2013 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale (MCJLS) will be held during Thursday, January 24th through Saturday, January 26th, stated Rodriguez.
On Thursday, January 24th ,the Food and Art Show, young exhibitors/Clover Kids Show and Competition, Rabbit Competition, weigh and sift of swine, lamb, goats and steers will be held, and in the evening the adult showmanship will take place.
On Friday, January 25th, the MCJLS Stock show species and competition will take place throughout the day. In the evening, the presentation of awards for Food and Art Show will highlight the MCJLS event.
On Saturday, January 26th, will be the annual Brisket Plate Sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Zan Mathies Show Barn .The 2013 MCJLS will culminate with the dedication of the 2013 MCJLS to Jesus “Chuy” Sanchez, the recognition of the 2012 Top Ten Buyers; and the 2013 MCJLS Sale.
Also on Saturday, January 26th, is the 2013 MCJLS Dance to be held at the City of Eagle Pass International Center for Trade featuring the “Electric Cowboys” and Vale Rodriguez from 8:00p.m. to 1:00a.m. The public is invited to attend the 2013 MCJLS and local businesses are invited to participate as a buyer in the 2013 MCJLS Sale to support the local youth.
Maverick County 4-H Club members and C.C. Winn High School and Eagle Pass High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) members will participate in the 2013 MCJLS.
“We invite the entire community as well as the constituents from around the region to shine up your boots and dust off your cowboy hat and come out and support our youngsters at the 2013Maverick County Junior Livestock Show,” Rodriguez stated.
