Deadly accident claims life of woman

Maverick County Chief Deputy Rick Fuentes announced that a deadly accident in the early morning hours, approximately 4:30a.m. , on Thursday, January 24, 2013, caused the death of Sara Davalos Lopez of Crystal City, Texas while traveling on Highway 277 North, just past Elm Creek.

Maverick County Deputies, City of Eagle Pass Fire Department Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Texas Department of Public Safety officers responded to the emergency call.

First-aid was rendered at the scene of the accident to the victim and was transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center Emergency Room by ambulance but passed away while being transported from the fatal injuries she sustained in the accident.

The preliminary accident investigation shows the deceased woman rear-ended an 18-wheeler tractor trailer.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the accident.
