EPISD Certified Nursing Assistant students complete job shadowing program

Almost thirty (30) Eagle Pass Independent School District (EPISD) Certified Nursing Assistant students from both Eagle Pass High School and C.C. Winn High School were honored for successfully completing seven (7) weeks of Job Shadowing at Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center at a ceremony held on Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at the Frank Chisum Regional Technical Center in Eagle Pass, announced Ana Laura Castillon, EPISD Career and Technical Education Director.
The EPISD Certified Nursing Students completed seven (7) weeks of job shadowing Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center professionals in various departments such as in Hospital Admissions, Pre-Operation, Intensive Care Unit, Newborn Nursery, Dietary, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, and other hospital departments, said Elizabeth Rodriguez, Registered Nurse, Health Science Instructor.
The Job Shadowing Program allowed EPISD students in the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program to gain valuable experience in various health science fields and educate them about the many career opportunities available in health sciences in the United States, added Rodriguez.
The Job Shadowing Program was a joint venture between the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center, the Southwest Border Area Health Education Council, and the EPISD Career and Technical Education Program, said Castillon.
The EPISD Ceritified Nursing Assistant students received a certificate of completion of the Job Shadowing Program by Rebecca Rios, Southwest Border Area Health Education Council Director , Ana Laura Castillon, EPISD Career and Technical Education Director, and Elizabeth Rodriguez, RN, EPISD Health Science Instructor.
Both students and their parents attended the Job Shadowing Program certificate ceremony at the Frank Chisum Regional Technical Center held on December. 19th. The EPISD Career and Technical Education Program places a high priority in parents participating with their children in all coursework and activities, said Castillon. Students, parents, program representatives, and faculty enjoyed refreshments after the ceremony.
