Four gunmen killed in Ciudad Acuna, Coahuila, Mexico

A representative of the Mexican Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) announced that four armed civilian gunmen were killed by members of the Mexican military on Monday, January 21, 2013, in a gun battle in Ciudad Acuna, Coahuila, Mexico, on the United States-Mexico border across from Del Rio, Texas.
At least two Mexican military soldiers sustained wounds from the fierce and intense gun battle requiring they be airlifted by military helicopter to Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico for emergency medical treatment.
The state of Coahuila has been embroiled in intense gun battles between the Mexican military and armed civilians during the past several years.
American law enforcement authorities were placed on high alert to ensure that the gun battles in Ciudad Acuna, Coahuila did not cross into the United States.
