Head-On Auto Collision kills local woman and injures two

Newly constructed Loop 480 claimed its first fatality accident as Eagle Passan Martha Alicia Jimenez Mata, age 62, died as a result of the injuries sustained in a single automobile head-on collision with a utility pole at the intersection of Loop 480 and El Indio Highway (FM 1021) at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, in Eagle Pass, leaving two minor children seriously injured and airlifted to San Antonio, Texas.
Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber reported the single auto collision is under investigation as to what caused the horrific head-on collision with a steel utility pole in southern Maverick County.
Two minor children were also seriously hurt in the accident sustaining severe injuries from the great head-on impact with the steel utility pole requiring both children, ages 17 and 12, be emergency airlifted to a San Antonio hospital for advanced medical intervention.
Jimenez was driving a white Ford Explorer sports utility vehicle which split in two as a result of the strong head-on collision with the utility pole. Jimenez was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace for Precinct 4 Teresa Melendrez at Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center at approximately 5:00 p.m.
Eagle Pass Police Department and Texas Department of Public Safety officers assisted Maverick County Sheriff’s Department Deputies at the accident scene.
The accident remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
