Jesus ‘Chuy’ Sanchez Cowboy Breakfast kicks-off 2013 Maverick County Jr. Livestock Show

The 2013 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale kicked-off on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, with a capacity-filled Jesus ‘Chuy’ Sanchez Cowboy Breakfast at the Zan Matthies Show Barn at the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass, Texas, announced Tim Hardt, President of the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Association.
A record-breaking attendance of over 500 community business and civic leaders, as well as Future Farmers of America students, participated in the traditional Cowboy Breakfast named this year in honor of community volunteer extraordinaire, Jesus ‘Chuy’ Sanchez, Past President of the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Association, who passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer in 2012.
Jesus ‘Chuy’ Sanchez was an extraordinary community leader with a penchant for teaching the youth moral and ethical values through participation in 4-H Club, FFA, and Maverick County Junior Livestock Show projects. During his tenure as President of the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Association, the MCJLSA won the Non-Profit Organization of the Year at the Eagle Pass Business Journal Awards and named the Citizen of the Year by the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce.
The 2013 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale will be held during Wednesday, January 23rd through Saturday, January 26th. On Wednesday, January 23rd, all participants must bring their animals to the Zan Matthies Show Barn and have them in their appropriate space by no later than 10 p.m..
On Thursday, January 24th, all Food Show Entries are due by 11:30 a.m. as judging will commence at 12 noon. Also all Exhibitors in the show must be in place by 8 a.m. The judging of the young exhibitors will begin at 8:30 a.m. The weighing, sifting, and judging of market rabbits and meat pens and selection of the grand and reserve champion rabbit and meat pen will be held at 10 a.m. The weighing and sifting of market steers will be at 11 a.m. followed by the weighing and sifting of market lambs at 12 noon followed by the weighing and sifting of market goats at 1 p.m. followed by the weighing and sifting of market swine at 2:30 p.m. followed by the judging of out of county and breeding animals at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m., recognition of the Food and Art Show winners will be held as well as recognition of breeding show champions, champion rabbit, and champion meat pen. The adult showmanship contest will be held at 6:30 p.m. to conclude Thursday’s activities.
On Friday, January 25th, all exhibitors must be in place by 8 a.m. sharp. At 9 a.m., the judging of market steers and the market steer showmanship will be held followed by the judging of market swine and the market swine showmanship contest followed by the judging of market lambs and the market lamb showmanship followed by the judging of market goats and the market goat showmanship contest. At 6 p.m., the selection of the grand champion and reserve champion goat, lamb, hog, steer, and the overall senior showmanship champion will be held concluding Friday’s activities.
On Saturday, January 26th, the traditional Bar-B-Que Plate Sale will be held from 11 a.m. through 1p.m. At 11 a.m., the 2013 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale will be formally dedicated to the late Jesus ‘Chuy’ Sanchez followed by the recognition of the 2012 top buyers. At 11:30 a.m., the 2013 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Sale will commence until the last show animal is sold. At 8 p.m. through 2 a.m. will be the traditional 2013 MCJLS Western Dance at the City of Eagle Pass International Center for Trade featuring The Electric Cowboys and Vale Rodriguez.
All events except the Bar-B-Que Plate Sale ($7 per plate) and the Western Dance (Students $10 and Adults $20) are free and open to the public. The public is encouraged to attend the 2013 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale and support the youth of Maverick County. All local businesses and citizens are invited to come out and participate in the 2013 MCJLS Sale and purchase a show animal from an exhibitor and make a difference in our community.
