Citizen of the Year nominees announced by Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce
The following are the names submitted as nominees to receive the 2012 Citizen of the Year Award: Hector J. Cerna, Jose A. Perez, and Mirella Zaragoza. This program was begun by the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce in 1972 as a vehicle to promote volunteerism in our community. Humberto “Beto” Garza was the first Citizen of the Year and Enrique Montalvo was selected for 2011. The requirements are that candidates be residents of Maverick County and that the work they engage in as volunteers throughout the year is done voluntarily, on their own time, and without any financial gain.
The 2012 Citizen of the Year Selection Committee met last Friday at 5:00 p.m., which was the deadline to submit nominations. The committee made its selection after reviewing and discussing each nomination based strictly and solely on what was submitted by the persons making nominations. For these reason, the community was advised to submit nominations well documented and supported by as much proof as possible, i.e., newspaper clippings, etc. in support of each given candidate.
