City election candidate registration deadline is Friday, March 1st

The deadline for persons interested in running as a candidate in the City of Eagle Pass City Council and Mayor election on Saturday, May 11, 2013, is this Friday, March 1, 2013, at 5 p.m., announced Eagle Pass City Secretary Mary D. Velasquez.

The positions up for election include the Mayor’s, and City Council Places 1 and 4. For Mayor, incumbent Mayor Ramsey English Cantu registered seeking re-election to a second term and local businessman Saul Fernandez registered for Mayor, too, challenging Mayor Cantu. Any one interested in running for Mayor has until March 1st to register.

For City Council Position Place 1, incumbent City Councilman Rudy Villalpando has already registered seeking a second consecutive term. Currently, no other person has registered for City Council Place 1.

For City Council Position Place 4, incumbent Luis Sifuentes also registered for re-election seeking another four year term. He too is currently unopposed as no one has registered to date.

Any one interested in registering for any of the three City of Eagle Pass election positions in the May 11th election may pick-up an application at the City Secretary’s office located at the Eagle Pass City Hall, 100 South Monroe Street, or call City Secretary Mary D. Velasquez for more information at (830) 773-1111. All candidate applications must be filed by Friday, March 1, 2013, at 5 p.m. with City Secretary Mary D. Velasquez.
