Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents seize $1.2 million worth of marijuana

Del Rio, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents throughout Del Rio Sector seized more than 1,500 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated value of more than $1.2 million, recent days.

Thursday, Jan. 31, agents assigned to the Eagle Pass South Border Patrol Station encountered foot sign heading north from the Rio Grande River. While following the foot sign, agents encountered three military-style duffel bags. The duffel bags contained 133 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $107,120.

Saturday, Feb. 2, agents assigned to the Del Rio Border Patrol Station located an abandoned vehicle with five sugar sacks containing 347 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $278,240. The narcotics were turned over to Immigration Customs and Enforcement for processing, and the vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.

Also on Saturday, agents assigned to the Eagle Pass South Border Patrol Station encountered foot sign of one suspected undocumented alien. While following the foot sign, agents encountered three military-style duffel bags.  The duffel bags contained 161 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $129,344.

Monday, Feb. 4, agents assigned to the Eagle Pass North Station received information that a vehicle had been observed possibly loading illegal narcotics near Quemado. Border Patrol agents working in the area were able to locate the vehicle and attempted to conduct a vehicle stop. A thorough investigation revealed three military-style duffel bags inside the vehicle containing a total of 275 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $220,080. One subject, the driver, was arrested.

Also on Monday, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass North Station observed a group of suspected illegal aliens crossing the Rio Grande River. As agents approached the group, they arrested one subject, and seized two large bundles. The bundles contained 89 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $70,600.

Tuesday, Feb. 5, agents assigned to the Eagle Pass South station observed a boat drop off several individuals and several large backpacks on the United States riverbank. Agents were able to apprehend one subject, and seize five large backpacks. The backpacks contained 283 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $226,480.

Wednesday, Feb. 6, agents assigned to the Eagle Pass South Border Patrol Station encountered foot sign of several suspected undocumented aliens walking north from the Rio Grande River. While following the foot sign, agents encountered four military-style duffel bags. The duffel bags contained 224 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $179,936.

All cases were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, unless otherwise noted.
