Eagles blank Laredo Cigarroa 11-0 on Gilberto Villalobos’ two-hitter

The Eagle Pass High School Eagles opened their 2013 baseball season with a shutout win against the pesky Laredo Cigarroa High School Toros by the score of 11 to 0 on an outstanding pitching performance by senior pitcher Gilberto Villalobos who hurled a two-hitter while fanning 10 Toros batters on Monday, February 18, 2013, in Laredo, Texas under the leadership of Head Coach Reynol Mendoza.
The Eagles quickly jumped to a 1 to 0 lead in the second inning on a walk to Eagles first baseman Armando Lopez, a single by Jack Acuna, and an RBI single by Jacoup Roiz scoring Lopez.
The Eagles hammered the Toros pitching in the fourth inning exploding for seven unanswered runs as Eric Gonzalez stroked a double, Javier Cardona slammed an RBI double scoring Gonzalez, Devon Torres singled advancing Cardona to third base, Diego Gaona grounded out scoring Cardona, pitcher Gilberto Villalobos got on base on an error, Armando Lopez belted an RBI double scoring Torres, Jack Acuna hit a towering three run homerun scoring pinch runner Kevin Chisum, Armando Lopez, and himself, followed by Jacoup Roiz and R.J. Ruiz got on base on consecutive hit by pitch, and Eric Gonzalez slammed a two RBI double scoring Roiz and Ruiz.
Eagles pitcher Gilberto Villalobos blanked the Toros batters limiting them to only two hits while striking out 10 of them to earn his first win of the 2013 season.
The Eagles scored three additional runs in the fifth inning while ace pitcher Gilberto Villalobos struck out the side to earn the Eagles an 11 to 0 victory via the ten run rule.
The Eagles next play at the Laredo Border Olympics Baseball Tournament during February 21-23, 2013, in Laredo, Texas against the best teams in South Texas.
