Lady Mavericks blanked by Del Rio in district opener, 12-0

The Eagle Pass C.C. Winn High School Lady Mavericks were blanked, 12 to 0, by the Del Rio High School Queens in their 2013 District 29-5A softball opener on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at Del Rio, Texas,

The Lady Mavericks committed six errors in the game resulting in six unearned runs for the Del Rio Queens. Del Rio pitcher Ari Galvan limited the Lady Mavericks to only six hits and stranded six Lady Mavericks on the basepaths to earn the win.

Lady Mavericks freshman hurler Brittney Perez took the loss allowing 11 hits, 12 runs of which 6 were unearned, had one strikeout, and no walks in four innings.

Del Rio scored one run in both the first and second innings, four runs in the third inning, and exploded for six runs in the fourth inning to earn the victory by the score of 12 to 0 via the ten run rule after five innings.

Leading the Lady Mavericks on offense were Lorena Sanchez who batted 2 for 3, Giselle Cerda went 1 for 1, Caridad Garcia hit 1 for 2, Ari Ruiz batted 1 for 2, and Rosemary Hernandez went 1 for 3.

The Lady Mavericks will regroup and next play at the Floresville Invitational Fastpitch Tournament during February 28-March 2, 2013, at Floresville, Texas.
