Mayor Ramsey English-Cantu officially announces for re-election

Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English-Cantu officially announced his bid for re-election on Monday, February 4, 2013, at the City Council Chambers of the City of Eagle Pass amidst a strong overflowing audience of loyal supporters, estimated over 200. Mayor Cantu stated the City of Eagle Pass has made significant improvements during his first term as Mayor and requires experienced leadership and vision to lead the city during the next four years.
Mayor Cantu introduced his lovely family who have been pioneers in the City of Eagle Pass for generations including his parents Raul “Pecas” Cantu and Byrdie English-Cantu and his sister, Kimberly English-Cantu, a local attorney.
Mayor Cantu has received state and national recognition for his progressive leadership as Mayor of Eagle Pass including being selected as the Chairman of the Texas Border Coalition, being the first Mayor of Eagle Pass to be selected as the President of the prestigious Texas Association of Regional Councils, is a strong advocate for Eagle Pass as a Board of Director of the Middle Rio Grande Development Council, serves as a Commission member of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Border 2012 Initiative, and as an American Cancer Society Ambassador for Governmental Affairs for the Texas 23rd Congressional District in Washington, D.C.
Community service is important to Mayor Cantu where he is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Community Action Social Services & Education (CASSE) , President of the Teleton Navideno, a Board of Director of the City of Eagle Pass Arts Council, a Board of Director of the Camino Real Mental Health and Mental Retardation Center (CMHMR), and as a Board of Trustee of the Eagle Pass Library Foundation. He also frequently volunteers his time as an advocate for youth and adult literacy programs at the Eagle Pass Independent School District.
As Mayor of the City of Eagle Pass, Mayor Cantu serves on the Board of Directors of the City of Eagle Pass Water Works and Sewer System, the City of Eagle Pass International Bridge System, the Maverick County Development Corporation, and other local organizations.
Mayor Cantu’s progressive and visionary leadership earned him the prestigious Public Representative of the Year Award at the 2011 Eagle Pass Business Journal Awards.
Following his formal announcement for re-election, Mayor Cantu and guests enjoyed refreshments and hor’s de voures in the City Hall Atrium.
