Over 300 enjoy First Annual International Art Show & Wine Tasting

Over 300 persons attended the First Annual International Art Show & Wine Tasting on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at the City of Eagle Pass International Center for Trade sponsored by The Molcajete Group, an organization dedicated to the promotion of the arts in Eagle Pass.
Guests enjoyed the beautiful and talented art of eight distinguished artists including internationally reknowned artist Robert “Bob” Butler of Eagle Pass, Bob Castillo of San Antonio, Carla Veliz of San Antonio, Marcos Mares of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, Luisa Santibanez Harper of Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, Gaby Valdes of Eagle Pass, Ron Castle of Del Rio, Audelia Veyna of Eagle Pass, and other fine artists.
Art Patrons also enjoyed a wine tasting of the over 13 varieties of fine wines made at Val Verde Winery in Del Rio, Texas, the oldest bonded winery in Texas founded in 1883 by Frank Qualia of Italy, and the srumptuous hor’s de voures and cheeses provided by Mia”s Restaurant and Catering of Eagle Pass.
“We are so excited and enthusiastic with the large response and acceptance the First Annual International Art Show and Wine Tasting has received tonight from the local and international art community and patrons. We hope this event will help put Eagle Pass in the international art map and recognition of the world-class artists found in the community and surrounding area,” said Catherine Pearl Castaneda, founder of The Molcajete Group and organizer of the art gala show and wine tasting.
“We are pleased that the Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico artists finally have an art venue to display and sell their fine works of art such as the First Annual International Art Show and Wine Tasting,” said Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu.
“The world-class talent of Eagle Pass and surrounding area artists is amazing and highly impressive. I salute the organizers of this event and wholeheartedly support the promotion of the arts and tourism in Eagle Pass and the state of Texas,” said Texas State Representative Poncho Nevarez, District 74 (D-Eagle Pass).
Guests were entertained by the Compania de Flamenco de Viviana Villarreal of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, the Billy Legendz Dance Studio, and a great band and vocalist.
A silent auction of art pieces donated by the participating artists was held with the proceeds benefitting Project Companion, a non-profit organization dedicated to the spaying and neutering of
animals and protection of animals.
The First Annual International Art Show and Wine Tasting was a great success.
