Maverick County Commissioners Court held a regular meeting on Monday, March 11, 2013, in which one of the items on the agenda was the possible approval to award the Maverick County Emergency Operations Center building construction contract. Maverick County Commissioners Court accepted the recommendation from the Middle Rio Grande Development Council representative, Erika Bustamante, and the Architectural Firm of Fred Perez to award Aguila Construction from Eagle Pass the contract to build the Maverick County Emergency Operations Center in Maverick County during their meeting on Monday March 11, 2013.
Maverick County Commissioners Court voted to award Aguila Construction the Emergency Operations Center contract. This decision was made after Commissioners Court took competitive bids on the contract and were finally narrowed down to four finalists including Aguila Construction at $979,864, J.P Sanchez Construction at $979,000, Hennek Construction at $1,063,584, and L.L Construction at $1,080,000. Aguila Construction’s winning bid in the amount of $979,864 dollars was chosen from four bids through a thorough evaluation of satisfactory history of projects turned in during the bidding project and logistics, and not just on the lowest bid.
This project is a joint effort between Maverick County and THE Middle Rio Development Council based in Carrizo Springs, Texas. The Maverick County Emergency Operations Center will be built on Highway 131 in the area adjacent to the Maverick County Detention Center at the Maverick County Industrial Park.
The Maverick County Emergency Operations Center, will serve as a regional emergency operations center and in a future second phase of construction may become a regional law enforcement academy and training center, including an indoor firing range. Phase 1 is expected to cost over a million dollars with Maverick County providing the real property in which to build the Emergency Operations Center destined to serve the Middle Rio Grande region as well as Maverick County.
