County Commissioners Amend New Maverick County Fairgrounds Facility Rental Rates
On Monday, March 11, 2013, Maverick County Commissioners Court discussed during their regular meeting to amend and accept the new proposed rental rates for the Maverick County Fairgrounds.
During the discussion phase of agenda item #29, County Commissioner Daniela Aleman proposed changes to the rates that had been proposed in a previous Commissioners Court meeting. Commissioner Aleman that regulating the fees according to the event taking place would help assure the possibility of increasing the rentals at the Maverick County Fairgrounds.
The new changes proposed will see a decrease in the rates. These rates will be regulated depending on a variety of regulatory circumstances such as if the rental was by a non- profit organization, magnitude of event, and commercial events.
County Commissioners and County Judge David Saucedo came to a consensus that it would be best to set a flat rate depending on the magnitude of the event and the type of event being held. Commissioner of Precinct 2, Daniela Aleman set adjustments to the proposal to better accommodate and facilitate the rental of the Maverick County Fairgrounds.
The proposal for the new rental rates were adjusted as Maverick County Judge David Saucedo agreed that going with a flat rate based on the type of event was a better way to be able to create revenue for the County. County Judge Saucedo added that he thought that categorizing the type of events and the prospective rates depending on the type of event would answer situations such as the one that was experienced last month in which an event that was held generated great interest and large crowds. A former local bull riding event was cancelled due to the burdensome and expensive rates.
During the discussion, Commissioner Jose Luis Rosales proposed that once establishing the new rates it would be wise to set apart funds to allocate to the maintenance of the Fairgrounds in order to address concerns of the state of the facility. Commissioner Rosales also stated that this would help in the upkeep of the Fairgrounds and that it would in some way justify the change of rates and would also help in the potential of future rentals.
The new rates for the rental of the Maverick County Fairgrounds are as follows; Commercial Events of a large scale with the capability of bringing in more than 2,500 people, $3,500; Commercial Events with more than 1,500 people will be charged $2,500; Commercial Events with less than 1,000 people will be charged $1,500, and Commercial event of less than 500 people, $ 600 per day.
Non- Profit Organizations will also be charged depending on the magnitude of the event and the rates are as follows. An event of more than 500 people will be charged $1,500 per day; an event of less than 500 persons will be charged $500. These organizations must also provide valid proof of an EIN and I990 tax form.
Rental fees for the pavilion area of the Fairgrounds are as follows; A 4 hour rental for less than 150 people will be $200, and Rental for more than 150 people for 4 hours will be $600.
