Gallego Encourages Students to Participate in National Art Competition
Washington, D.C.: Congressman Pete Gallego (TX-23) encourages students in the 23rd Congressional District to participate in the 2013 Congressional Art Competition. The winner will have his or her artwork displayed in complex of the U.S. Capitol. The competition is open to all students in the 9th-12th grade during the 2012-2013 school year. Students from Congressional District 23 will compete only against other high schools in the congressional district.
“This is a great opportunity for young artists to have their work prominently displayed in the U.S. Capitol,” said Congressman Gallego. “Members of Congress, congressional staffers, and tens of thousands of visitors enjoy the artwork of our constituents each year. This event promotes creativity – and I encourage students across the district to submit their work.”
The guidelines of the competition are:
· Framed artwork can be no larger than 28X28X4”
· Artwork must be original
· Must be of a tasteful nature (no political, sensationalistic, or gruesome artwork)
· Winners must provide sturdy framing (wood or metal)
· Participants must either live or go to school in the 23rd Congressional District
· Participants must be in the 9th-12th grade during the 2012-2013 school year
Each school participating must select their winner- and submit that artwork to the San Antonio district office by April 5, 2013.
