San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro will be the keynote speaker at the 19th Annual Eagle Pass Business Journal Awards on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the El Residencial Reception Hall in Eagle Pass, Texas, announced Ricardo E. Calderon, Publisher of the Eagle Pass Business Journal.
“Eagle Passans and Middle Rio Grande region business and civic leaders have the opportunity to hear and meet one of America’s rising political stars in Mayor Julian Castro of San Antonio this coming Saturday, March 30th. Named as one of the top 40 under 40 political leaders in the United States by Time Magazine, Mayor Castro has led the Alamo City into becoming the top performing local economy in the United States according to the Milken Institute,” said Calderon. “Mayor Castro is a champion of public and private partnerships which improve the economic and social well-being of every citizen such as his recent leadership to approve Pre-K -4 head start education for children in San Antonio. He also has guided the City of San Antonio to invest in new energy such as solar energy and developed San Antonio as the regional headquarters of the Eagle Ford Shale oil and gas exploration boom in South Texas,” said Calderon. Furthermore, Mayor Castro has led San Antonio in the largest military consolidation and construction projects, particularly in health care services and research, in the United States, developing San Antonio as “Military City USA.”
