San Antonio, Texas Mayor Julian Castro will headline the 19th Annual Eagle Pass Business Journal Awards as the featured keynote speaker on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. at the El Residencial Reception Hall in Eagle Pass, Texas, announced Ricardo E. Calderon, Publisher of the Eagle Pass Business Journal.
” I am pleased to announce the nominees for the 19th Annual Eagle Pass Business Journal Awards as submitted by the public,” said Calderon. For the Restaurant of the Year Award, the nominees are Charcoal Grill Restaurant, Chili’s Grill & Bar, Chop Chop Bistro, Parrilla de San Miguel, Tensai Sushi, and Yummy Yo Frozen Yogurt & More. For Employee of the Year Award, the nominees are Felix Alvarez of Maverick Arms, Inc., Tom Gonzalez of Eagle Pass High School, Mary Hughes of Maverick County Hospital District, Angelica Pargas of the GEO Group, and Irene Rodriguez of the Eagle Pass Independent School District. For Secretary of the Year, the nominees are Nilda Esquivel of the Eagle Pass Independent School District, Ericka Gomez of Foster & Associates, Leticia Martin of the Eagle Pass Independent School District, and Aide Valdez of the Eagle Pass Water Works & Sewer System.
The nominees for the Non-Profit Organization of the Year Award are Border Federal Credit Union, Boys & Girls Club of Eagle Pass, Maverick County Environmental and Public Health Association, Middle Rio Grande Development Foundation, Project Companion, and Southwest Texas Junior College. For Public Manager of the Year Award, the nominees are Deniz Brown of the Eagle Pass Independent School District, Mario Diaz of the City of Eagle Pass International Bridges System, Cynthia Martinez of the Maverick County Water Control & Improvement District No. 1, and Cynthia O. Rodriguez of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The nominees for the Health Care Provider of the Year Award are Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center, Maverick Home Health, Maverick Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, South Texas Urgent Care Center, and United Medical Centers.
For the Physician of the Year Award, the nominees are Dr. Hector Alvarez, Dr. Jose R. Berlanga, Dr. Remigius Okea, and Dr. Gaston Zylberg. The nominees for the Teacher of the Year Award are Timoteo Chaires of Sam Houston Elementary, Ana Cruz of Robert E. Lee Elementary, Randy Laurence of C.C. Winn High School, Ramon Morin of Eagle Pass High School, and Norma I. Perez of C.C. Winn High School. For the Public Representative of the Year Award, the nominees are Juan Manuel “Chuco” Farias of the Maverick County Hospital District, Carlos I. Uresti of the Texas Senate, and Rudy Villalpando of the City of Eagle Pass.
The nominees for the Small Business of the Year Award are Alcalosa Forwarding, Inc., Botas Galindo, Del Rio Welders, Inc., Eagle Pass Dry Cleaners, and Eagle Pass Fun Plex. For the New Business of the Year Award, the nominees are Four Seasons Event Hall, Microtel Inn & Suites, Sun Loan Company, TownePlace Suites, and Yummy Yo Frozen Yogurt & More. The nominees for the Franchise Business of the Year Award are Papa John’s Pizza, Cleo’s Subway, Fuddrucker’s, McDonald’s-Del Rio Blvd., and O’Berry’s Frozen Yogurt.
For the International Business of the Year Award, the nominees are BBVA Compass Bank, Central 57 Importers & Export, Inc., Falcon International Bank, Maverick Arms, Inc,, and Padilla Marketing & Import Sales, LLC. The nominees for the Big Business of the Year Award are Ancira Ford-Mercury of Eagle Pass, Chesapeake Energy, First National Bank, H.E.B., IBC Bank-Eagle Pass, and Walmart Super Center. For the Business Manager of the Year Award, the nominees are Hector J. Cerna of IBC Bank-Eagle Pass, Mario Cruz of Brown Chevrolet Buick Pontiac GMC, Seth Garza of Lowe’s Home Improvement, and Pete Zamora of Eagle Pass Nursing & Rehabilitation.
The nominees for the Business Advocate of the Year Award are Maricela Brown of Sul Ross State University-Rio Grande College Small Business Development Center, Paco Flores of Mall de las Aguilas, Sandra Ruiz-Rodriguez of Rio Insurance Agency, and Ramon Salinas of IBC Bank-Eagle Pass. For the Professional of the Year Award, the nominees are Aldo Escamilla of the City of Eagle Pass, Edgar Hugo Juarez of the Law Office of Edgar Hugo Juarez, Margaret Mejia of C.C. Winn High School, and Carmen Romo of Henry B. Gonzalez Elementary. The nominees for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award are Joseph Adam of B & B Mart, Humberto Borrego of Italian Mix Bistro, Raquel Palacios of C.A.D. Services, and Sandra Ruiz-Rodriguez of Rio Insurance Agency.
