Rito Valdez, III appointed new Maverick County Treasurer

Maverick County Commissioners Court voted four in favor and one abstention to appoint Eagle Pass funeral director and Maverick County Hospital District Vice-President Rito Valdez, III as the new Maverick County Treasurer at a special Commissioners Court meeting on Monday, March 18, 2013.
Maverick County Judge David Saucedo suggested the name of Rito Valdez, III as a possible candidate for the County Treasurer and new County Commissioner of Precinct 4 Roberto Ruiz made the motion to appoint Valdez as County Treasurer and County Commissioner Jose Luis Rosales seconded the motion which passed with County Commissioner Jerry Morales and County Judge David Saucedo voted in favor and County Commissioner Daniela Aleman abstained from voting.
Valdez was elected to the Maverick County Hospital District Board of Directors three years ago and serves as Vice-President of the Hospital District Board.
The Maverick County Treasurer is also a publicly elected position despite being appointed causing Valdez to have to resign from the Maverick County Hospital District Board of Directors. Valdez will serve as County Treasurer until the next election in 2014.
It is unknown if Valdez had tendered his letter of resignation at the Maverick County Hospital District at the time of his appointment or whether it will be forthcoming in light of his new appointment.
