Maverick County Commissioners Rudy Heredia, Eliaz Maldonado, and Cesar Flores, each indicted by a federal grand jury in separate cases, requested and filed a Motion for Continuance of their March 12, 2013 Court hearing date for Docket Call and Re-Arraignment before United States District Judge Alia Moses of the Western District of Texas, Del Rio Division, in Del Rio, Texas, which the Court granted and reset their cases for April 9, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. for Docket Call and Re-Arraignment.
This continuance and rescheduling gives Heredia, Maldonado, and Flores and their legal defense teams more time to review the evidence and prepare for their trials should they seek to go to trial. The continuance also gives Heredia, Maldonado, and Flores time to evaluate their cases and make a decision whether to continue their pleas of not guilty or change their pleas to guilty in future court proceedings.
County Commissioners Eliaz Maldonado and Cesar Flores have already resigned their publicly elected positions as a result of their federal indictment for bribery arising from Maverick County construction contracts in separate cases while County Commissioner Rudy Heredia remains steadfast in his position despite being temporarily suspended by State District Judge Dick Alcala on February 11, 2013 in a lawsuit filed by the State of Texas for a petition of removal via Maverick County Attorney Ricardo Ramos.
In another federal case against Maverick County Probation Officer Javier Gonzalez related to bribery and corruption in Maverick County construction contracts, Gonzalez also requested a continuance of his March 12th Court hearing and his case was reset for April 9th for Docket Call and Re-Arraignment before U.S. District Judge Alia Moses.
All persons indicted are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a Court-at-Law.
