Amy Gonzalez and Raul Gonzalez promoted to Sergeants at Eagle Pass Police Department

Eagle Pass Police Department officers Amy Gonzalez and Raul Gonzalez were promoted to Sergeants at a ceremony held at the Eagle Pass City Hall on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Eagle Pass Police Department Lieutenant Moises Pena presided over the ceremony and welcomed both officers and their families as well as guests to the solemn ceremony.
Eagle Pass Police Department Canine (K-9) Instructor and Officer Amy Gonzalez is a 15 year veteran of the local police department, the first female K-9 Instructor and Officer in the local police department, and becomes the first female Sergeant within the Eagle Pass Police Department history.
Eagle Pass Police Department officer Raul Gonzalez is also a 15 year veteran of the local police department, starting as a Patrol Officer and later working in both state and federal task forces.
Eagle Pass Police Department Lieutenant Aldo Escamilla congratulated both
Amy Gonzalez and Raul Gonzalez on their much deserved and earned promotion to Sergeants. Lieutenant Escamilla stated “both of you are outstanding Police Officers and for the past 15 years you have brought forth a great effort to serve your community. Today, your hard work has been rewarded.”
Newly sworn-in Sergeant Amy Gonzalez stated “I feel very honored to be appointed as Sergeant. I love the city that I work for and I am ready to take on the responsibility and to show the community that I am here to serve them the best way that I can. If you believe and establish goals through hard work and dedication you can achieve everything your heart desires. I am an example of that as a female officer in a man’s world who has striven to better oneself each and every day in turn bettering and safe guarding my community.”
Sergeant Raul Gonzalez stated “I am thankful for the opportunity and I want to let the community know that I am at their service in anything that we can assist them on. I also want to thank my colleagues for helping me grow and learn beside them. We are ready to keep assisting the community and safe guarding their interest each and every day.”
Eagle Pass interim City Manager Gloria Barrientos congratulated both officers on behalf of the city and the Eagle Pass City Council on their promotions to Sergeant. Barrientos stated that “we hope that you continue to serve our community and continue to make all of us proud.”
Eagle Pass City Councilman William “Billy” Davis spoke on behalf of the Eagle Pass City Council and congratulated Amy Gonzalez and Raul Gonzalez on their accomplishments and dedicated service to the citizens of Eagle Pass. Davis also congratulated all of the Eagle Pass Police Officers for their the great job they do for the citizens of Eagle Pass and the sacrifices they and their families make to protect and serve the community. Davis stated “we would like to thank you for what you do; it is because of you that I can say that all of us in the community can go to sleep at night knowing that we are secure to do so.”
Both officers Amy Gonzalez and Raul Gonzalez were accompanied by family members during the oath of office as Sergeants and pinning of their new Sergeant badges.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held with hor’s d voures and refreshments served to guests.
