Native Eagle Passan and Tejano Music recording, artist Jessica Sanchez, received a proclamation of appreciation and recognition from the Eagle Pass City Council on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. Sanchez represented the City of Eagle Pass at the 32nd Annual Tejano Music Awards in August 2012 in which she was awarded Best New Female Artist. The proclamation recognizes Sanchez’s talent and award as a goodwill ambassador of Eagle Pass.
“It is with great honor that we recognize one of our own today. Jessica started at a very young age singing in the local high school mariachi groups and has worked her way up to stardom. Jessica Sanchez was born and raised in Eagle Pass and is the daughter of Joe and Leticia Sanchez. We can say Jessica’s musical career started at the age of four years old singing for family and friends. She is a role model and believes in higher education and continues her education at Southwest Texas Junior College while continuing her musical career. During her short musical career in the Tejano industry, Jessica has had a number one hit in the Tejano top 20 hits and has won the coveted Best New Female Artist at the 32nd Annual Tejano Music Awards on August of 2012. This feat makes Jessica the first female artist from Eagle Pass, Texas to win this title. Congratulations Jessica. The City of Eagle Pass wishes to recognize Jessica for her outstanding musical accomplishments and for taking the City of Eagle Pass and our name so high. I proclaim Jessica Sanchez as an ambassador of goodwill for the City of Eagle Pass and I urge the citizens of our community to join me in congratulating Ms. Jessica Sanchez for her accomplishments and in wishing her the best of luck in all her future musical endeavors,” said Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu.
Jessica was born in Eagle Pass on November 14, 1989 and attended Eagle Pass High School. She participated in the Eagle Pass High School mariachi band and graduated in 2008. Jessica received an Associate’s degree from Southwest Texas Junior College in 2010. Sanchez’s love for singing has propelled her to a promising music career within a rapid time earning a Tejano Music award. With only six months under her belt in the Tejano Music industry, Sanchez won her first Tejano Music Award. Sanchez is currently recording her second album-CD.
“I would love to express my gratitude to my community and fans. It’s been a wonderful experience that has opened a lot of doors for me and without my fans and community I don’t think it would have been possible so I say thank you,” said Jessica.
“It felt a whirlwind of emotions and excitement when I won Best New Female Artist of the Year. The very first thing I said when I went up on stage was, Eagle Pass in the house! And after that the Alamo Dome went wild,” said Sanchez.
“We are currently in the studio working on our second album which will be released in August 2013. I am working with an amazing song writer from Eagle Pass, Carmen Ravenna. We are focusing on songs best-suited to my talents,” said Sanchez.
“I am announcing that I will be performing at the Eagle Pass Rotary Club’s Cinco de Mayo Festival on May 3, 2013 and I hope to see you all there.
