City election early voting begins April 29th-May 7th

After the Easter holiday, the City of Eagle Pass election for the positions of Mayor and City Council Places 1 and 4 are taking center stage in the community with early voting beginning on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and continuing until Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the City of Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center located at South Adams Street in Fort Duncan Park. The general City election will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the same polling place, the Multi-Purpose Center, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. under the direction of City Secretary Mary Velasquez.
The only municipal election being contested this year is the position of Mayor while City Council Places 1 and 4 are uncontested. Incumbent Mayor Ramsey English Cantu is seeking re-election to a second term of four (4) years as the top political leader in the City of Eagle Pass. Challenging Mayor Ramsey English Cantu is political newcomer and local businessman Saul Fernandez.
City Councilman Place 1 Rudy Villalpando is seeking re-election also to a second four (4) year term unopposed. City Councilman Rudy Villalpando was elected in 2010 unopposed and again has not drawn opposition this year, guaranteeing him re-election. Similarly, City Councilman Place 4 Luis E. Sifuentes is seeking re-election to a second four (4) year term unopposed but initially faced an opponent in 2010 to get elected. Sifuentes is also guaranteed to win re-election.
The citizens of the City of Eagle Pass are encouraged to exercise their right to vote and participate in the May 11, 2013 City elections.
