City of Eagle Pass and County of Maverick enjoy sales tax increases for March 2013

Texas State Comptroller Susan Coombs delivered good news to City of Eagle Pass and County of Maverick public leaders and citizens with a significant increase in sales taxes collected during the month of March 2013 for the City of Eagle Pass, County of Maverick, and the Maverick County Landfill/Waste and Community Development Fund.
The City of Eagle Pass was the largest beneficiary of the increased sales tax collections for March 2013 among the local governmental entities with a 13.07% increase to $322,465 from last year’s $285,189.23, bringing the year to date total with a 8.6% increase to $1,232, 577.74 compared with last year’s total to date of $1,134,489.34. City officials should have a big smile on their faces and a sigh of relief with this significant sales tax increase during the month of March 2013.
The County of Maverick also enjoyed a significant increase in sales tax collections for the month of March 2013 with a 7.4% increase to $171,423.02 compared to last year’s total for March 2012 of $159,516.99, bringing the year to date total with a 4.73% increase to $659,261.85 compared with last year total to date of $629,448.53. Maverick County officials should be tickled pink with this nice increase in sales taxes during the month of March 2013 and year to date.
Let us not forget that the citizens of Maverick County also approved some years ago a sales tax increase to be dedicated for the design and construction of a new solid waste landfill. This special Maverick County Landfill/Waste and Community Development Fund sales tax also enjoyed a significant increase of 9.7% during the month of March 2013 to $171,222.10 compared to last year’s collection of $155,955.40 during March 2012. For the total year to date, this Maverick County Landfill/Waste sales tax collection has enjoyed a significant 9.04% increase to $666,037.98 compared to last year’s similar collection of $610,775.98 according to State Comptroller Susan Coombs.
“The March 2013 sales tax collection figures clearly show a growth of Eagle Pass and Maverick County retail businesses and overall growth and prosperity within the community,” said Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu.
