Eagle Pass City Election starts April 29th with Early Voting

The City of Eagle Pass, Texas May 11, 2013 Municipal Election for Mayor and City Council Places 1 and 4 begins on Monday, April 29th with Early Voting starting at 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. until May 7th at the Multi-Purpose Center located on South Adams Street in Fort Duncan Park.
The April 29-May 7th Early Voting period will feature two extended voting time days on May 2nd and 7th with voting time from 8 a.m. through 8 p.m. to assist local voters with extended time to allow them to vote after work hours.
The positions up for election are for Mayor and City Council Places 1 and 4. Incumbent Mayor Ramsey English Cantu seeks re-election to a four year term and is challenged by local businessman Saul Fernandez. City Councilman Rudy Villalpando seeks re-election to Place 1 unopposed. City Councilman Luis E. Sifuentes also seeks re-election to Place 4 unopposed.
Eagle Pass City Secretary and Election Administrator Mary D. Velasquez reminds voters to bring either or both their Maverick County-issued voter registration card and/or a picture identification card such as a Texas Drivers License or Texas Identification Card issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety. If a voter does not bring their voter registration card or a picture identification card, they will not be allowed to vote until they comply with this election requirement.
Anyone wishing to vote by mail may request their application to vote by mail now from the City of Eagle Pass City Secretary’s Office located at City Hall, 100 South Monroe Street, or by calling (830) 773-1111. Voters using the vote by mail method must fill-out the application to vote by mail and return it within the deadline stated therein.
City Secretary and Election Administrator Mary D. Velasquez stated that during every voting day the poll will be opened during the 12 Noon to 1 p.m. Lunch Hour for the convenience of local voters.
The general Election Day is Saturday, May 11th, and the voting will be at the Multi-Purpose Center from 7 a.m. through 7 p.m. Election results will be announced at the Multi-Purpose Center immediately after all votes have been counted.
