Maverick County Commissioners Court approved Mike Castillo as the new general manager of the Maverick County Landfill operated by the Maverick County Solid Waste Authority at its Monday, April 8, 2013 regular meeting held at the Commissioners Courtroom of the Maverick County Courthouse in Eagle Pass, Texas.
On January 7, 2013, former Maverick County Landfill and Maverick County Solid Waste Authority general manager, Hector Daniel Chavez, unexpectedly resigned his position and then Assistant General Manager, Mike Castillo, was appointed as interim General Manager by the Board of Directors of the Maverick County Solid Waste Authority.
The Maverick County Solid Waste Authority Board of Directors approved Mike Castillo as General Manager of the Maverick County Landfill at their March 27, 2013 regular meeting held at the landfill site office in El Indio, Texas. However, since the Maverick County Solid Waste Authority is a department of the County of Maverick, Maverick County Commissioners Court approval is required as well.
Maverick County Commissioners Court also approved to authorize the county’s financial advisor and bond counsel to work with the Maverick County Solid Waste Authority to obtain funding for the sum of $2.9 million to design and construct the second landfill waste cell at the Maverick County Landfill because the first and original waste cell quickly filled-up with the over 30 Eagle Ford Shale oil and gas service companies who received contracts to dispose of their waste at the El Indio, Texas landfill site on the U.S.-Mexico border. The $2.9 million needed to design and construct the second landfill waste cell will be financed through the issuance of Maverick County bonds in the market. Plans are to commence construction immediately after all the legal requirements of issuing the bonds are satisfied with a completion date before the end of 2013.
The Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 cited the Maverick County Solid Waste Authority in February 2013 of using water from the water irrigation district lateral canal without paying for the water for up to 2 or more years. This water use payment remains outstanding as the Maverick County Solid Waste Authority is awaiting receipt of the balance owed for the unauthorized use of the water by Maverick County Landfill personnel.
