Texas House of Representative Alfonso “Poncho” Nevarez of District 74 (D-Eagle Pass) celebrated the grand opening of his new District office on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 1995 Williams Street in Eagle Pass. Over 100 local business and civic leaders attended State Representative Nevarez’s grand opening under a picture perfect sunny blue sky day.
Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce President William “Billy” Davis welcomed the District 74 constituents and congratulated State Representative Poncho Nevarez on doing an outstanding job as a freshman State Representative for the citizens of District 74 and all Texans.
State Representative Poncho Nevarez thanked all the loyal constituents of District 74 for attending the grand opening of his Eagle Pass office and supporting him during his first Legislative Session in Austin, Texas. Representative Nevarez informed the guests that the Texas House of Representatives had voted late last night on the State of Texas Biennial Budget for 2013-2015 and will now submit it to the Texas Senate for their review and approval. Nevarez pointed that there are only 70 days left in the 83rd Legislative Session.
Representative Nevarez introduced his District 74 Legislative Staff including Chief of Staff Oberlyn Salinas, Legislative Director Leo Aguirre, General Council Lauren Cacheaux, Eagle Pass Office Director Joe Ornelas, and Legislative Aide Jarret Jackson.
Representative Nevarez stated that District 74 is the largest State Representative district in both the United States and State of Texas geographic-wise. If District 74 were a state of the United States, it would be the 38th largest state in the nation. Nevarez highlighted that he has based his decisions in the 83rd Legislative Session with morals and values taught to him by his parents and doing what is in the best interests of Texans, especially children.
Representative Nevarez proceeded to formally cut the grand opening ribbon to his new Eagle Pass office joined by his lovely wife, Rosi, and two daughters, mother, family members, and public elected officials from Maverick County.
Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, Representative Nevarez invited his guests and constituents to a reception held at La Mansion Reception Hall next door to his office. The grand opening of Representative Nevarez’s new Eagle Pass office was a great success.
