City of Eagle Pass Gasoline Card Fraud Mastermind Edgar Aguilar to be sentenced May 15th

The City of Eagle Pass, Texas gasoline card fraud mastermind, Edgar Aguilar, is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, before United States District Judge Alia Moses for the Western District of Texas, Del Rio Division, in Del Rio, Texas.

Edgar Aguilar was an employee of the City of Eagle Pass Public Works Department when he misappropriated several City-owned fuelman gasoline cards and used them to personally as well as allow third parties to gas up their private vehicles using the City’s fuelman gasoline cards charging them one-half the price of the total amount they fueled in cash payments and pocketed the cash, causing the City of Eagle Pass to suffer almost $70,000 in damages. Aguilar was the mastermind of the gasoline card fraud.

Edgar Aguilar faces a maximum of up to ten (10) years in prison, a $250,000 fine, a $100 special assessment fee, five years of supervised release, and restitution to the City of Eagle Pass for its damages.

In addition to Edgar Aguilar, four other persons were indicted and later plead guilty to participating in the City of Eagle Pass gasoline card fraud case with Edgar Aguilar, including Rene Castillo, Elizabeth Vivian, Armando Ojeda Nuncio, and Ricardo Hernandez Espinoza. All five defendants plead individually guilty to the federal charges. Aguilar’s co-defendants are scheduled to be sentenced later this summer before U.S. District Judge Alia Moses.

Prosecuting the City of Eagle Pass gasoline card fraud case for the United States of America was Assistant United States Attorney Timothy A. Duree for the Western District of Texas, Del Rio Division.
