The City of Eagle Pass, Texas inaugurated the historical “Eagle Pass Back in the Day” Exhibition on Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Hesles Sporting Goods and Yogurt Store in downtown Eagle Pass with over 50 persons attending the grand opening ceremony, announced Joe Cruz, Director of the Eagle Pass Main Street Program.
The idea of hosting a historical pictorial exhibition of Eagle Pass and downtown Eagle Pass was a fusion of Cruz’s work with the historical Main Street Program, Jeff Taylor’s website called Eagle Pass Back in the Day, and local downtown businesswoman Angelica R. Hesles’ remodeling of the family’s historical downtown store. Cruz approached Taylor and Hesles about hosting a historical pictorial exhibition and they agreed to participate in it. Cruz then invited local historian John Stockley, Director and Curator of the Fort Duncan Musuem, and the City of Eagle Pass Main Street Program Board of Directors to participate in the exhibition.
Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu welcomed the guests to the “Eagle Pass Back in the Day” exhibition and congratulated its sponsors. Mayor Cantu stated that downtown Eagle Pass has been the foundation of Eagle Pass’ commerce, trade, culture, and history since its founding in 1849 and the “Eagle Pass Back in the Day” Exhibition was a great event to document and learn about downtown Eagle Pass’ role in the development and growth of Eagle Pass and its cherished relationship with Eagle Pass’ sister-city of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico.
Eagle Pass Main Street Program Director Joe Cruz introduced Jeff Taylor, Angelica R. Hesles, John Stockley, and the members of the Eagle Pass Main Street Program Advisory Board of Directors including Chairperson Doris Miller, Ruben Herrera, Sylvia Montemayor, Rosa Elena Clark, Sonia Shannon, John Sullivan, and Rolando Jasso for their loyal support of this exhibition.
Patrons attending the “Eagle Pass Back in the Day” Exhibition took a nostalgic trip down memory lane expressing their excitement and exuberance regarding the beautiful collection of the many historical photographs of Eagle Pass on display.
Guests were treated to delicious hor’s de voures and refreshments prepared by downtown Mia’s Restaurant, owned and operated by Vanessa Hesles.
The “Eagle Pass Back in the Day” Exhibition will run Monday through Saturday, May 13-18th at Hesles Sporting Goods and Yogurt Store in downtown Main Street, Eagle Pass, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the exhibition is free and open to the public.
