Eagle Pass Housing Authority swears-in new Commissioners and elects Officers

The Housing Authority of the City of Eagle Pass, Texas swore-in new Board of Commissioner Pete Venegas, Jr. and reappointed Board of Commissioner Delfina Morales Garza at its Thursday, May 23, 2013 regular Board of Commissioners meeting held at the Community Room of El Centenario High-Rise Building in Eagle Pass, Texas. Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu appointed Venegas and re-appointed Morales-Garza as Commissioners of the Eagle Pass Housing Authority for a two-year term.
Following the swearing-in ceremony of Commissioners Venegas and Morales-Garza, the Eagle Pass Board of Commissioners unanimously re-elected Ana Gonzalez as Board Chairperson and Joe Gonzalez as Board Vice-Chairperson for the 2013-2014 fiscal year. Other Board of Commissioners include Ricardo E. Calderon, Pete Venegas, Jr., and Delfina Morales-Garza. Carla Y. Mancha-Juarez is the Secretary of the Eagle Pass Housing Authority Board of Commissioners as well as the Executive Director of the local housing authority.
Former Eagle Pass Housing Authority Board of Commissioner Claudio Heredia was presented by the Board of Commissioners a plaque of appreciation and a gift for his distinguished service as a Commissioner during 2011-2013. Heredia thanked the Eagle Pass Housing Authority, its Board of Commissioners, Administration, Staff, and, most importantly, its tenants for operating a professional and efficient public housing authority and providing a multi-million dollar economic impact to the City of Eagle Pass and Maverick County, Texas. Heredia was elected on November 6, 2012 to serve on the Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees and practices law with a major law firm in Eagle Pass.
The Eagle Pass Housing Authority Board of Commissioners approved the operating budget for low rent public housing, Section 8, and Central Office Cost Center for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.
Also approved at the May 23rd Board of Commissioners meeting was the grant writing services of Don Williams for research and grant writing for available grants to build and operate an aquatic recreational center for tenants of the Eagle Pass Housing Authority. The Board of Commissioners also approved a summer recreational program for children residing at one of the facilities of the Eagle Pass Housing Authority. A contract for the installation of a playground at the Loma De La Cruz public housing development was awarded to Sandoval Construction for the sum of $44,324.64 by the Board of Commissioners.
The Board of Commissioners also approved to open the one bedroom elderly low rent waiting list and a resolution to update the public housing utility allowance for the 2013-2014 fiscal year. Also approved was authorization of the Executive Director to submit the fiscal year 2013-2014 Emergency Safety and Security Grant to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and to request proposals for the fire alarm monitoring and maintenance service agreement at the El Centenario High Rise Building. Tabled for next month’s meeting was the approval of a contract for auditing financial services for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 fiscal years.
