Lady Eagles advised by U.I.L. to complete Game One today with winner advancing to Regional Semi-Finals

Eagle Pass High School Principal Rudy Bowles in an exclusive interview to the Eagle Pass Business Journal stated that his pleas with U.I.L.’s Peter Contreras to allow the Lady Eagles complete their best of three series against San Benito Lady Hounds was overruled by current U. I. L. Rules that require last night’s lightning delayed and suspended game in the top of the sixth inning with one out needs to be completed today, Saturday, May 11th, and the winner will qualify to advance to the Regional Quarter-Finals next week negating the previously agreed best of three series by the teams.
The Lady Eagles coaching staff, players, administrators, and parents are disappointed of U. I. L.’s decision but have no choice to respect its rules and abide by them.
Game One was called off and suspended by Home Plate umpire last night at 10:00 p.m. after a second lightning delay during the top of the sixth inning with one out and San Benito Lady Hounds batting with a runner at second base. Lady Eagles assistant coach Ricky Ruiz informed last night that Game One was considered done and Games Two and Three, if necessary, would be played today Saturday, May 11th.
But U.I. L. Rules require a suspended game be completed and prohibits teams from playing more than two games in one day, thereby the winner of the suspended game to be completed is declared the playoff winner and advances to the next round.
Eagle Pass High School Principal Rudy Bowles argued that Game One be completed today, Saturday, and play Game Two today and, if necessary, Game Three can be played on Monday at a mutually agreed place, time, and location. But another U.I.L. Rule trumps this argument and requires a suspended playoff game be completed and the winner declared the series winner and advancing to the next level, according to Bowles.
