Lady Eagles to battle Brownsville Porter Cowgirls for Area Championship

The Eagle Pass High School Lady Eagles will battle the Brownsville Porter High School Cowgirls for the U.I.L. Region IV-5A Area Softball Championship in a best of three series commencing Friday, May 3, 2013 with game one at 7 p.m. at the San Antonio Independent School District Coach Mary Ann Villarreal Softball Complex at Burbank High School in San Antonio, Texas, and game two is scheduled for Saturday, May 4th, at 3 p.m. at the same softball complex, and, if necessary, game three will be played 30 minutes after game two.
The Eagle Pass Lady Eagles enter the Area Softball Championship with an overall season record of 26-6 and will be led by their standout sophomore southpaw pitcher Krystal De La Cruz, junior Shortstop Sandra Mendoza, junior center fielder Monica Flores, senior second baseman Jessica Garcia, senior third baseman Samantha De Leon, senior right fielder Keanna Cisneros, junior left fielder Krystal Perez, sophomore catcher Claudia Cruz, and senior first baseman Samantha Fuentes and sophomore Dariela Velasquez.
The second place District 32-5A Brownsville Porter Cowgirls enter the Area Softball Championship with a strong and experienced team led by their standout pitching tandem of Sabrina Garcia and Marisela Gaytan, Erika Sanchez, Danielle Sanchez, and Kim Sanchez under head coach Luis Guevara. The Cowgirls defeated the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North High School Lady Raiders in bi-district by sweeping the Lady Raiders in two straight games by scores of 9-2 and 10-6.
The Cowgirls are an explosive hitting team with several home run hitters including Sabrina Garcia, Marisela Gaytan, Erika Sanchez, Danielle Sanchez, and Kim Sanchez. The Cowgirls blasted the PSJA North Lady Raiders pitching in bi-district with multiple home runs in both games.
Lady Eagle ace pitcher Krystal De La Cruz has her work cut out for her against the potent Cowgirls batters and will need to keep the ball on the corners of home plate and low. Lady Eagle reserve pitchers Samantha De Leon and Amanda Appleton are ready to support the team.
The Lady Eagles offensive hitters will face stellar pitching from Cowgirls pitchers Sabrina Garcia and Marisela Gaytan who both enjoyed an excellent 2013 season in District 32-5A and the bi-district championship against PSJA North Lady Raiders. Lady Eagle standout Sandra Mendoza will need to get on base like she did during the bi-district championship against the Edinburg Vela Lady Saber Cats to spark the Lady Eagles scoring, junior standout Monica Flores needs to have a great hitting series to score runs, standout senior Jessica Garcia needs to get timely hits, senior standout Keanna Cisneros will need more hits like she did against San Antonio Churchill and Edinburg Vela, junior Krystal Perez will seek to get on base and score, and the rest of the Lady Eagle hitters will need to contribute on offense to score runs and support the Lady Eagle pitchers.
The Lady Eagles versus Cowgirls Area Softball Championship will be an exciting and thrilling series which all loyal Lady Eagles softball fans should attend and support the Lady Eagles to victory. The Lady Eagles are under the direction of head coach Oscar Ruiz and assistant coaches Ricky Ruiz, Saul Salas, J.J. Iracheta, and Carlos Rodriguez.
