Maverick County Commissioner of Precinct 2, Rodolfo “Rudy” Bainet Heredia, and his attorney Scott McCrum of San Antonio, Texas announced on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 to United States District Judge Alia Moses for the Western District of Texas, Del Rio Division, in Del Rio, Texas that Commissioner Rudy Heredia plans to plead guilty in the money laundering case filed against him by a federal grand jury in October of 2012 for selling his Ford F-150 King Ranch 4 x 4 Pick-Up Truck to a member of an organized crime cartel in Mexico and not reporting the importation of the $13,000 sale proceeds in cash to United States of America authorities at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry. Charged with Heredia in this money laundering indictment were David Gelacio and Jose Luis Aguilar, both of whom have already previously plead guilty in the case.
Maverick County Commissioner Rudy Heredia is charged with four counts in the federal grand jury indictment. Commissioner Heredia faces a sentence of up to 20 years of imprisonment, a fine of up to $500,000, three years of supervised release, and a special assessment of $100 on each count.
Commissioner Heredia is scheduled to plead guilty on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. before United States District Judge Alia Moses. Heredia was the sole remaining defendant in this money laundering case to have not plead yet or go to trial. Heredia is detained without bond since the date of his arrest on October 18, 2012.
It is unknown as to which of the four counts Heredia will plead guilty to in the federal grand jury indictment. Once Heredia pleads guilty on June 13th, he will be the second Maverick County Commissioner to have plead guilty as former Maverick County Commissioner of Precinct One, Eliaz Maldonado, plead guilty earlier this month to one count of accepting a bribe in a corruption case.
