19 EPISD Softball Athletes named to 2013 District 29-5A All-District Team; Lady Eagle Sandra Mendoza named MVP

A total of 19 Eagle Pass Independent School District softball athletes from the Eagle Pass High School Lady Eagles and C.C. Winn High School Lady Mavericks were named to the 2013 District 29-5A All-District Softball Team with standout Lady Eagle junior shortstop Sandra Mendoza named the Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive year.
Eagle Pass Lady Eagles named to the 2013 District 29-5A All-District Softball Team are Sandra Mendoza as the Most Valuable Player with a .613 batting average and 40 stolen bases and as First Team Members are standout sophomore southpaw pitcher Krystal De La Cruz, standout junior center fielder Monica Flores who hit seven home runs and batted .448 during the season, standout senior second baseman Jessica Garcia who batted .413 during the season, standout junior first baseman Samantha Fuentes who batted .267 during the season, and standout sophomore Designated Player Dariela Velasquez who batted .427 during the season; named to the Second Team are standout senior third baseman Keanna Cisneros who batted .437 during the season and standout junior left fielder Krystal Perez who batted .430 during the season; and named to the Honorable Mention team are standout freshman Melanie Mendoza who batted .345 during the season, standout senior Samantha De Leon who batted .250 during the season, and standout freshman Nina Flores who batted .350 during the season.
C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks named to the 2013 District 29-5A All-District Softball Team as First Team members are standout junior third baseman Ronnie Valdez, standout sophomore shortstop Ariana Ruiz, and standout freshman outfielder Alyssa Lopez; named to the Second Team are standout senior second baseman Rosemary Hernandez, standout freshman catcher Lorena Sanchez, and standout freshman outfielder Giselle Cerda; and named to the Honorable Mention team are standout freshman pitchers Brittany Perez and Amberly Garza.
Lady Eagle Sandra Mendoza joins an elite Lady Eagle sorority of two-time Most Valuable Players which includes former standout Lady Eagles pitchers Alyssa Fernandez (2003, 2004) and Alexa C. Calderon (2005, 2007). Fernandez and Calderon are among the Lady Eagles legendary pitchers. Mendoza has verbally committed to play softball for the University of Texas at Arlington upon graduating from Eagle Pass High School.
