City Council to interview two City Manager finalists

The City of Eagle Pass, Texas City Council will interview the two finalists selected for the vacant City Manager position on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, during a special city council meeting at 5:30 A.M. at the City Council Chambers, located at 100 South Monroe Street, in Eagle Pass. The two finalists are current interim City Manager Gloria Barrientos and former Eagle Pass Independent School District Superintendent Jesus Sanchez.
The permanent City Manager position has been vacant since former City Manager Daniel Valenzuela resigned to accept the City of San Angelo, Texas City Manager post.
The Eagle Pass City Council appointed Assistant City Manager Gloria Barrientos as interim City Manager until a permanent City Manager is selected and hired by the City Council.
The selection of a new City Manager will be done by the Eagle Pass City Council minus former Mayor Pro-Tem Asalia Casares, who resigned Friday, June 7th, to become the newly appointed Maverick County Commissioner of Precinct 2. The Eagle Pass City Council includes Mayor Ramsey English Cantu, Rudy Villalpando, William “Billy” Davis, and Luis E. Sifuentes. With an even numbered City Council members, there is the possibility of a tie between the City Council members on the selection of a City Manager.
Eagle Pass citizens and taxpayers are anxious for the City Council to interview and select a permanent City Manager to bring normalcy and order to the growing United States-Mexico border community. Local citizens believe that the two finalists are highly qualified and competent to take the helms of City Manager.
