Eagle Pass Mayor Pro-Tem Asalia Casares appointed County Commissioner of Precinct 2

Maverick County Judge David Saucedo appointed Eagle Pass Mayor Pro-Tem Asalia Casares to replace convicted former Maverick County Commissioner of Precinct 2 Rodolfo “Rudy” Bainet Heredia, who pleaded guilty on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 to federal charges of bribery, kickback, and a bid-rigging scheme of Maverick County construction contracts during 2010-2011, at a press conference held at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013, at the County Commissioners Courtroom in the Maverick County Courthouse located at 500 Quarry Street in Eagle Pass, Texas.
On February 11, 2013, State District Judge Dick Alcala temporarily suspended then County Commissioner Rudy Heredia as a result of his federal grand jury indictment and appointed news journalist Daniela Flores-Aleman as temporary County Commissioner of Precinct 2 until Heredia’s conviction or further order of the Court. Former County Commissioner Rudy Heredia’s guilty plea to the federal charges on June 4th automatically removed him as Precinct 2’s County Commissioner and terminating the services of Daniela Flores-Aleman as a temporary County Commissioner of Precinct 2.
County Judge David Saucedo chose not to appoint temporary Precinct 2 County Commissioner Daniela Flores-Aleman to the now vacant Precinct 2 Commissioner post and instead decided to tap Eagle Pass Mayor Pro-Tem Asalia Casares as Heredia’s replacement as Precinct 2’s Commissioner until December 31, 2014 . Newly appointed Precinct 2 County Commissioner Asalia Casares will have to run for election to a four year term in the March 14, 2014 Primary Election, and, if she wins the Primary Election, run again in the November of 2014 Texas general election if she wants to serve past December 31, 2014.
Outgoing temporary Precinct 2 County Commissioner Daniela Flores-Aleman tweeted to her constituents that she was honored to have served only the people and not the political interests of County Judge David Saucedo. She thanked her constituents for their support during her four months tenure as temporary Precinct 2 County Commissioner. Flores-Aleman tweeted that she was summoned by County Judge David Saucedo to meet with him on Friday, June 7th, at 1:30 p.m. at his office but County Judge Saucedo failed to appear. Precinct 2 constituents thanked Commissioner Daniela Flores-Aleman for doing an outstanding job during her four months tenure.

County Judge David Saucedo administered the Oath of Office to newly appointed Precinct 2 County Commissioner Asalia Casares during the press conference.
Newly appointed Precinct 2 County Commissioner Asalia Casares thanked County Judge David Saucedo for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Precinct 2 and Maverick County at the June 7th press conference. Commissioner Casares stated that by taking the Oath of Office as Precinct 2 County Commissioner automatically triggered her resignation from the Eagle Pass City Council and Mayor Pro-Tem position. Commissioner Asaila Casares stated she looks forward to serving the citizens of Precinct 2 and Maverick County in her new position.
Eagle Pass City Secretary Mary D. Velasquez in an interview with the Eagle Pass Business Journal stated that the City Charter calls for a City Special Election within 120 days to elect Asalia Casares’ now vacant Place 1 City Council position.
