Head-On Collision Kills Three in Dimmit County

A tragic head-on automobile collision on Highway 83 between Carrizo Springs, Texas and Crystal City, Texas in Dimmit County has claimed the lives of three Crystal City residents on Friday, June 7, 2013, at approximately 4:30 a.m..
According to law enforcement authorities, the head-on collision involved a van and a pick-up truck. The pick-up truck was traveling north on Highway 83 from Carrizo Springs to Crystal City while the van was traveling south towards Carrizo Springs. The three deceased victims were traveling in the pick-up truck, including one adult and two children, and are residents of Crystal City. A male adult driving the van was airlifted to a San Antonio, Texas medical facility in critical condition for emergency medical treatment.
Dimmit County has seen a significant increase of fatal accidents during the past two years as a result of the Eagle Ford Shale oil and gas boom which has increased traffic in and traversing the Carrizo Springs area and Dimmit County.
The fatal head-on automobile collision is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Dimmit County Sheriff’s Department.
