Mother and Daughter killed in Del Rio, Texas accident

A mother and daughter from Eagle Pass, Texas died in an automobile accident on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, on U.S. Highway 277 North in Del Rio, Texas about one mile south of the City Limits near the Ruben Chavira Elementary School at approximately 8:46 A.M., announced a Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman.
Maria del Carmen Montalvo, age 56, and her daughter, Julissa Marie Montalvo, age 15, of Eagle Pass were traveling north on U.S. Highway 277 North towards Del Rio from Eagle Pass on a Kia Rio automobile when a truck-tractor driven by Rodolfo Rios Calvillo, age 34, of El Paso, Texas, traveling south on U.S. Highway 277 North allegedly veered left into the lane of travel of the Montalvo family striking their Kia Rio and causing the tragic accident and deaths of the mother and daughter, according to the preliminary investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The truck-tractor driver, Rodolfo Rios Calvillo, did not sustain any serious injuries in the accident.
Julissa Marie Montalvo was a student at C.C. Winn High School in Eagle Pass, Texas. Maria del Carmen Montalvo was Julissa’s mother and the driver of the Kia Rio struck by Rios Calvillo’s truck-tractor while Julissa was the front passenger.
The community of Eagle Pass and Maverick County, Texas are mourning the tragic news of the demise of the Montalvo mother and daughter in this Del Rio, Texas auto accident. Students, classmates, faculty, staff, and friends of Julissa Marie Montalvo at C.C. Winn High School are deeply saddened and troubled by the news of her demise as well as that of her mother, Maria del Carmen Montalvo.
The accident is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The Eagle Pass Independent School District announced that it will have counselors available to students at C.C. Winn High School to assist them with their grief and pain regarding the loss of their classmate and friend, Julissa Marie Montalvo.
