C.C. Winn Mavericks fall to Laredo Alexander Bulldogs 63-35

The Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Mavericks fell to the potent Laredo Alexander High School Bulldogs’ tandem air and ground attack 63 to 35 on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at the Laredo United Independent School District Student Activity Complex in Laredo, Texas in District 29-5A football league play, falling to 1-6 overall in the season and 1-2 in District 29-5A action.
The valiant Mavericks fought hard throughout the game, but the talented Laredo Alexander Bulldogs trio of quarterback Aaron Swain, running back Xavione Skaggs, and wide receiver Marc Losoya were too much for the Mavericks to handle on this evening.
The Laredo Alexander Bulldogs high-octane offense scored three touchdowns in the first quarter on a 36 yard TD pass from quarterback Aaron Swain to running back Xavione Skaggs, a 28 yard TD gallop by running back Xavione Skaggs, and a 66 yard TD bomb from quarterback Aaron Swain to wide receiver Marc Losoya to take a 21 to 7 lead after the first period.
The thundering Mavericks orchestrated an impressive touchdown drive in the first quarter utilizing their patented ground attack culminating with a one yard TD quarterback sneak by Juan Elizondo and Mavericks kicking specialist Dante Valdez point after attempt was good to make it 21 to 7.
In the second quarter, the Mavericks ground game engineered another touchdown drive of 70 yards on the Student Activity Complex turf resulting in a one yard TD scamper by Mavericks quarterback Juan Elizondo and Dante Valdez kicked the extra point through the uprights to narrow the score 21 to 14 in favor of the Bulldogs, being the closest the Mavericks would get to the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs answered the Mavericks second touchdown with a drive of their own culminating in a 10 yard dash by Bulldog standout tail back Xavione Skaggs and the point after attempt was good to give the Bulldogs a 28 to 14 lead in the second quarter.
The stingy Bulldogs defense held the Mavericks offense on their next possession and took the ensuing punt and possession into the Mavericks end zone striking a 63 yard TD pass from Aaron Swain to standout Bulldogs wide out Marc Losoya and the extra point was good to give the Bulldogs a commanding 35 to 14 lead at halftime.
The never say die Mavericks regrouped during halftime and made important adjustments to make a run at the potent Bulldogs offense. In the third quarter, the Mavericks went to their bag of tricks and perfectly executed a faked punt as Mavericks punter Randy Hernandez raced down the sideline on a 59 yard touchdown and Mavericks place kicker Dante Valdez extra point was good to narrow the score 35 to 21 in the third quarter.
The Bulldogs answered the Mavericks faked punt touchdown with one of their own on a 56 yard aerial touchdown pass from quarterback Aaron Swain to wide receiver Marc Losoya and the point after attempt was good to extend the Bulldogs lead 42 to 21 mid-way in the third period.
The valiant Mavericks offense answered the Bulldogs aerial show with an impressive 77 yard touchdown sprint by quarterback Juan Elizondo who raced down the sideline to pay dirt and Dante Valdez’s point after attempt was good to narrow the score 42 to 28 late in the third quarter.
The Bulldogs responded with another Aaron Swain to Marc Losoya aerial 51 yard touchdown bomb and the extra point was good to close out the third quarter with a 49 to 28 lead over the Mavericks.
In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs unleashed the record books on the Mavericks scoring on two more Aaron Swain to Marc Losoya aerial touchdowns of five and 44 yards to run up the score to 63 to 28 in the fourth stanza.
Late in the fourth quarter, the never day die Mavericks orchestrated another patented ground game touchdown drive culminating on a 62 yard dazzling sprint by quarterback Reyes Lopez and Dante Valdez made the extra point to make it a 63 to 35 final score.
The Mavericks fall to 1-5 overall in the season and 0-3 in District 29-5A with the loss.
The Mavericks next play the Laredo United South Panthers on Friday, October 18, 2013, at 7:30 P.M. at home at the Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium celebrating its 2013 Homecoming festivities.
