Eagle Pass Eagles rally in second half to defeat Laredo LBJ Wolves 28-7

The Eagle Pass High School Eagles rallied for 28 unanswered points in the second half to defeat the home standing Laredo LBJ High School Wolves 28-7 on Saturday, October 12, 2013, in an important District 29-5A tilt in Laredo, Texas, improving to 2-4 overall and 2-1in District 29-5A standings.
The Laredo LBJ Wolves jumped to an early 7-0 lead in the first half shutting down the potent Eagles offense, but the Eagles regrouped and made adjustments at half-time to romp over the Wolves defense and shut down their offense to earn a hard fought District 29-5A victory over former Eagles and now Laredo LBJ Wolves Head Coach Oscar “Oki” Villasenor.
The Eagles defense stepped-up again as standout Eagle defensive back Kevin Chisum stripped the football from a Wolves running back and returning it for a 64 yard touchdown early in the third-quarter and the point after attempt was good to tie the game at 7 to 7 each.
The stout Eagles defense rattled the Wolves running back with a bone crushing tackle forcing the runner to fumble the football and the Eagles recovered it at the Wolves 26 yard line. The Eagles offense finally hit the fifth gear as standout Eagles quarterback Ty Chisum scored on an 11 yard quarterback keeper and Eagles kicking specialist Jerry Gonzalez booted the extra point through the uprights to give the Eagles their first lead in the game 14 to 7 midway in the third period.
The Eagles offense impressively marched down the Laredo Student Activity Complex football stadium turf for a 40 yard touchdown drive culminating in Eagles running back Guillermo Hernandez punching the Panthers goal line on a six yard scamper into the end zone and Eagles place kicker Jerry Gonzalez went 3 for 3 extra points to make it 21 to 7 in favor of the trending Eagles.
The mighty Eagles defense rose to the occasion one more time this season as Eagles standout defensive back R.J. Ruiz intercepted a Wolves pass attempt and returned it for a spectacular 76 yard touchdown and Eagles kicking specialist Jerry Gonzalez went perfect for the night with his fourth extra point to give the Eagles a commanding 28 to 7 lead over the Wolves in the waning moments of the game. The stingy Eagles shut out the Wolves during the second half and held on for the important District 29-5A win over the pesky Laredo LBJ Wolves.
The Eagle Pass Eagles improve to 2-4 overall in the season and 2-1 in District 29-5A standings with the key victory over the Wolves.
The Eagles will host the District 29-5A leading Laredo United Longhorns on Saturday, October 19th, at home at 7 P.M. at the Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium in another important district match-up.
