Many Eagle Pass Independent School District (EPISD) students, teachers, and staff were exposed to mold while either attending school or working at the Language Development Center campus located at South Veterans Boulevard in Eagle Pass, Texas.
The Language Development Center campus was contaminated with mold and related matters as a result of recent rains and flooding. The EPISD allowed classes to be held at the Language Development Center campus since the start of the school year until September 24th when it cancelled classes. During this period, students, teachers, and staff members were exposed to mold and related matters while attending or teaching classes at the campus.
Several students, teachers, and staff persons have complained suffering health issues related to their exposure of mold and related matters, including allergies, sinus, coughs, respiratory problems, rashes, and more. Students, teachers, and staff persons inhaled the mold and related matters while studying or working at the Language Development Center.
The EPISD cancelled classes from September 25th through September 27th at Language Development Center transferring classes to Austin Elementary on Madison Street commencing September 30th. The EPISD then had to cancel classes at Austin Elementary on Monday, September 30th, because the Austin Elementary campus classrooms were not ready to accept students, angering some parents.
Many parents were disappointed and concerned with the EPISD handling of the situation and visited Superintendent Gilberto Gonzalez”s office to discuss their concerns.
The EPISD has cancelled classes for Language Development Center students until further notice.
