Former Justice of the Peace Cesar Perez sentenced to 8 years probation & fine

Former Maverick County Justice of the Peace of Precinct 2, Cesar Perez, was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment suspended for eight years of probation and fined $5,000 after being convicted by a Maverick County Jury of Theft by a Public Servant on August 15, 2013 at a Sentencing hearing held before the Honorable Amado J. Abascal, III, of the 365th Judicial District Court of Maverick County, Texas on Tuesday, October 1st, in Eagle Pass, Texas.
On August 15th, Perez was found guilty of theft by a public servant of more than $1,500 but less than $20,000, a third degree felony, by a seven woman and five man Maverick County Jury in a weeklong trial before Judge Amado J. Abascal, III.
Perez was indicted on December 14, 2012 by a Maverick Grand Jury of theft by a public servant together with his secretaries, Elisa Martinez and Martha Zamarripa. Perez was suspended by the Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct in January 2013. Maverick County Judge David Saucedo appointed Dora Madera as Interim Justice of the Peace of Precinct 2 after Perez’s suspension. Madera continues today as Interim Justice of the Peace of Precinct 2 after Perez’s conviction.
On July 23rd, Perez’s secretaries, Elisa Martinez and Martha Zamarripa, plead “No Contest” to misdemeanor charges of theft by a public servant and testified against Perez during his jury trial in August 2013.
